"If you think about it, human beings are just like butterflies, we live in a constant state of transformation, always trying to become the best version of ourselves"
Sofia Castellanos is a star on the rise within Mexico´ s art scene. A native to the Mexican Capital, Castellanos has developed as an artist, muralist and illustrator in the last few years. With a bachelor in graphic design, she started a specialization on the oriental pencil technique at Michiko Cultural Center, following an intensive course of art history, painting and drawing at the Florence Academy of Art, this allowed her to create her detailed and fantastic style.
Sofia ́s work, like the artist herself, is exuberant, life-affirming and disarmingly positive. To this day, she has been commissioned by Chanel, Mercedes Benz Mexico and Levi ́s amongst other recognized brands, partnered with Nike for a mural project in Mexico City, collaborated with the Mexican Embassy in Thailand with a wonderful piece for Bangkok ́s Creative District and recently has taken part in an Urban project by The United Nations and We do things, giving life to one of the Sustainable Development goals (ODS) at the most importan food warehouse and distribution center (CEDA) in Mexico, the largest insti- tution of its kind in the world. In 2017, she was chosen as one of the “50 Digital Leaders in Mexico” by Expansion Group ( Elle, Instyle, Quién, Travel + Leisure and Life&Style).
“My work is an illustrated story, a journey through a place where magic triumphs over the paradoxes of our world, full of exotic characters and of possible fantasies , a chance to step into a new and way more colorful reality.”
Castellanos’ unique style has allowed her to experiment and move from painting walls in Mexico to international commissions and collaborations with big-name brands. Constantly celebrating the feminine power of creation, her work has elevated in a field historically dominated by men, turning her into one of Mexico ́s youngest promising artists.
